OUR STORY

Developed in 2017 to enable industrialisation

Our facility is a central part of Innovate UK's Faraday Battery Challenge (FBC), the UK Government programme to fast track the development of cost-effective, high-performance, durable, safe, low-weight and recyclable batteries.

The FBC's mission continues to create an environment to enable and support the design, development and manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles and other applications.

The delivery of UKBIC was initiated by a consortium of partners: Coventry City Council, WMG at the University of Warwick, and Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership. Funding for the £130m project was provided via the Faraday Battery Challenge (Innovate UK, UKRI) and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Over the following years, we embarked on a journey of specifying, designing and constructing our facility, installing and commissioning our industry-scale production equipment and growing our business and our team of experts, preparing to support our customers on their own scale-up journeys.

The completed UKBIC facility was officially opened by the Prime Minister on 15 July 2021.
