Introduction to Battery Manufacturing

Duration: Fourteen hours across two days including a tour of the line

This course is designed to provide an introduction to battery manufacture and use and the essential role battery storage plays as part of Net Zero the movement away from fossil fuels to renewable or low carbon energy. The course covers in detail the manufacture and development of battery technologies with the chance to experience our manufacturing facility.

The course will run from 09:00 - 16:00 - Breakfast served from 08:30, Lunch will be provided. Teas and Coffees available throughout.


Course structure:

Delivered over two days at UKBIC’s custom-built industrialisation facility’. Our experienced trainers contextualise the learning, linking presentations and discussion with a detailed tour and insight into the production process and giga-scale line.


Learning coverage:

This course is designed for delegates who wish to increase their knowledge on the process of manufacturing batteries, from logistics inbound to Module and Pack and its journey beyond the giga-factory. Covering:

1. The history of battery technologies
2. Current technology and manufacturing
3. Introduction to the electrode manufacturing processes
4. Introduction to cell assembly
5. Introduction to formation, ageing and testing (FA&T)
6. Introduction to module and pack
7. Electrochemistry of Li-ion batteries
8. Clean and dry rooms in battery manufacture
9. Market forecast for Li-ion batteries
10. First-hand experience of an industrial battery manufacturing facility


On completion:

Delegates will be confidently able to:

1. Understand the importance of Li-ion batteries and how they work
2. Recognise and understand the manufacturing processes undertaken to create a Li-ion battery
3. Recognise the challenges of manufacture and the key parameters that can be changed to ensure an effective product
4. Understand the importance of clean and dry rooms in battery manufacturing
5. Have a grasp of future development of cell chemistries and formats
