Working with us

We work with companies across the battery value chain from supply chain companies (materials, components, equipment) to cell developers, module and pack builders, and end users of batteries. Our clients apply battery technologies across a variety of sectors, including: automotive, aerospace, off-highway vehicles, mass transportation systems, marine and static energy storage.

UKBIC primarily works with organisations who are interested in any aspect of process development and manufacture of batteries including those engaged in R&D and industrialisation of new technologies.

Yes. The initial capital investment for UKBIC’s facility, equipment and services has been funded through government via Faraday Battery Challenge.  Our clients pay for access to and usage of these capabilities. Speak to our Business Development team who can discuss further with you based on your particular requirements. Contact us here.

Yes. We will consider participation on a case-by-case basis, either as a research organisation partner or subcontractor, depending on the nature of the work being undertaken. Our Business Development team would be happy to discuss opportunities that we could support. Contact us here.

Yes, our modular facility means clients can use particular elements of the process or an entire manufacturing line to suit their project needs. For example, a client may want to bring in their own electrode materials and begin work at UKBIC from the coating and drying process, or they may wish to insert third party cells into modules and / or packs at UKBIC. The facility is designed to be flexible to different uses. Our Business Development team would be happy to discuss your particular requirements with you. Contact us here.

No. We do not manufacture products to sell commercially. UKBIC is a manufacturing development service provider supporting the scale-up and industrialisation of our clients’ battery technologies.

No, we are unable to provide samples of our materials / products. This is to protect our partners’ intellectual property.

We have broad capability to support the majority of chemistries within the lithium-ion battery family, and some other chemistries such as sodium-ion. During the early stages of discussion, our technical team will work with you to understand the particular design and processing requirements of your technology to ensure compatibility with UKBIC’s processing equipment.

We currently have the equipment capability to produce 21700 cylindrical cells and 300mm x 100mm pouch cells.

We can accommodate modules of up to:

Pouch:  400x400x250mm

Cylindrical: 800x250x100

Max weight: 30kg

Max voltage: 60V

We can accommodate packs of up to:

2500x1750x500mm

Max weight: 1000kg

Max Voltage: 1000V

Max capacity: 135KWh

Within these boundary conditions the design of module/pack we can handle is very flexible.

Yes, this is a core part of UKBIC’s service. We are not, however, a design authority and generally provide design for manufacture and design for assembly guidance.
